What can a Chiropractor do to address shoulder pain?

When you see a chiropractor for an injured shoulder, the chiropractor will check the bio-mechanics of your painful shoulder. But before doing that, the chiropractor will ask you questions about how and when the pain started, such as:

  • Do you know how you hurt your shoulder?
  • Did you fall?
  • Did you pick up something heavy?
  • Can you raise your arm?
  • Can you describe the pain?
  • Are you getting shooting pain from the should down to your arm, or vise versa?

The chiropractor will muscle test the muscles around the shoulder to see which muscles are involved in your injury. Your range of motion will be checked, and restrictions to shoulder motions will be found. Then the chiropractor will adjust the shoulder joint with the goal of increasing its range of motion. This will be followed by using therapeutic modalities such as trigger point therapy, active resistive exercises, ice, or cold laser therapy to relieve pain and muscle spasms around the shoulder joint.

The most important goal is to restore the shoulder’s normal range of motion with no pain.
